After mesmerizing us with extravagant sets, designer outfits and Bollywood showstoppers, Shree Raj Mahal Jewelers India Couture week got over on a high note. This entire week of glitz and glamour was presented by Fashion Design Council of India from 15th July to 20th July,2014 at Taj Palace Hotel, New Delhi. Famous fashion designers such as Sabyasachi Mukherjee, Manish Malhotra, Manish Arora, Monisha Jaising, Rimple & Harpeet Narula, Rohit Bal, Varun Bahl showcased their outstanding work.
Here is a glimpse of the India Couture Week:
Well-known designer Sabyasachi Mukherjee opened ICW 14, with his show ‘Ferozabad’, an old city of Mughal Emperor Akbar’s time. His exquisite ensemble with intricate zardosi embroidery was presented on a set which looked like an oriental train. He took us on an exotic journey of an old world with female models dressed up in high neck blouses and saris, lehengas ,anarkalis and men dressed up in blazers, trousers, churidars, shirts and bandhgalas in different shades of peaches and nudes with rich embroidery and 18 carat gold buttons.
Manish Malhotra presented a fabulous show with most of the Bollywood celebs such as Alia Bhatt, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Urmila Matondkar, and Huma Qureshi walking the ramp. He presented bridal wear with heavy Kashmiri zari work in different shades of gold, which included saris, shararas with embroidered jackets and anarkali suits for women and fitted sherwanis and bandhgalas for men, in variety of fabrics.
Manish Arora, showcased his vibrant collection Kaleidoscope, divided into 6 parts at an offsite venue. His collection included lehenga skirts with intricate embroidery, saris, bell bottoms, midi skirts etc . His show also had a tribal touch with models faces decorated with bindis, beaded masks and floral head gears.
Varun Bahl presented a modern Indian-wear such as anarkalis, sairs and lehengas,that celebrate India’s wealth of traditional crafts. His designs had applique work, rose motifs, hand embroidery, layering as key elements.
Monisha Jaising recreated the Paris street and café where artists sit and paint beautiful pictures on the ramp to show case her World Bride collection. Her outfits included saris, ballroom gowns and dresses. Lisa Hayden walked the ramp as a showstopper wearing leather lehenga with gold embroidery and a white shirt.
